We did have an extraordinary amount of all-original N/A 12A rotaries in the Mazda club I was in. My 227K mile RX-7 was the “baby” of the group. IIRC, the highest was deep into the 400’s. The later 13B’s (especially the Turbos) and the Renesis all have their issues, but the 12A was pretty hearty.

My guess is that its similar to the feeling you get when you are about to shoot a deer or other animal. Massive adrenaline dump.
